Heart Valves – Heart valves prevent the back flow of blood into the heart.Skin transplants, referred to as skin grafts, are used to treat severe burns or wounds. Skin – Skin protects the body from infection and injury.Cornea transplants are a common procedure used to restore vision for those with eye diseases and corneal infections. Corneas – The outer transparent lens covering the iris and pupils on the outside of the eye.Patients, most often children, require intestine transplants if they have been diagnosed with life-threatening intestinal diseases such as short-gut syndrome. Small Intestine – The portion of the digestive tract extending from the stomach to the anus, consisting of upper and lower segments.Pancreatic transplants typically performed for those with insulin-dependent Type I diabetes. Pancreas – The pancreas aids in the digestion of proteins, carbohydrates, and fats.Lung transplants may be necessary for those with severe lung disease, such as cystic fibrosis, COPD (chronic obstructive pulmonary disease) and emphysema. Lungs – Lungs remove carbon dioxide from the blood and provide blood with oxygen.A kidney transplant may be recommended for those who have been diagnosed with kidney failure as a result of conditions like diabetes, hypertension or polycystic kidney disease. The kidneys are the most commonly transplanted organ. Kidneys – Kidneys maintain proper fluid balance, regulate acid-base concentration and filter the blood of metabolic waste, which is expelled as urine.Liver transplants may be used to treat various conditions which cause liver failure, such as cirrhosis or liver cancer. Liver – The liver secretes bile and is active in the formation of certain blood proteins and in the metabolism of carbohydrates, fats, and proteins.A heart transplant can be used to help those suffering from heart failure, as well as babies born with heart defects. Heart – The heart pumps blood through the body. One organ & tissue donor can save 8 lives and improve dozens more through tissue donation. We are available 24-hours daily to respond to the potential for life-saving donation in our areas. We collaborate with hospitals, medical professionals, other agencies (such as medical examiners and law enforcement) and the public to increase support for donation, and to facilitate donation. LifeLink of Florida, LifeLink of Georgia and LifeLink of Puerto Rico are within LifeLink Foundation, and represent three of 57 federally designated organ procurement organizations (OPOs) throughout the United States. Hospitals are required by law to contact their local organ recovery organization any time someone passes away so that donation may be considered as a possibility. When the brain is deprived of oxygen, it dies, and brain death is determined. Such an injury might be from a car accident or other traumatic event, or occur when a stroke or heart attack prevents brain tissue from receiving vital oxygen. Organ donation, with the primary exception of living kidney donation, occurs after someone has died from an injury that results in brain death. After a life-saving heart, liver, lung, kidney, pancreas or small intestine transplant, many transplant recipients go on to lead normal, active and productive lives – working, spending time with family, contributing to their community and making memories which would be otherwise impossible. Organ donation is a gift that provides renewed life to a patient in need.

I feared if I deleted something by mistake, or broke the device completely, this would leave the client with no means to communicate… No Pressure there LOL!Īfter becoming a client of the Lighthouse of Collier in 2019, and again seeking services in summer 2020, Jack received training in orientation and mobility. I was genuinely concerned about making ANY changes since I knew this client’s ability to communicate completely relied on this device. (It had not been updated since she was in high school!) I had never worked with this specific brand of augmentative communication unit before, so I searched online for a manual and spent many hours learning how to work the device and make changes to the settings and choice menus. She accesses the device through the use of head mounted switches – one switch steps through the choices while pressing the other switch causes the device to ‘speak’ the selected word or phrase out loud for her.ĭuring my first visit, Mary’s mom informed me that she was not at all tech savvy and really hoped I would be able to update the ChatFusion to offer more functional choices for Mary. Paterson combined the lessons learned from PES with his own instincts, which had landed him a promotion from Fifa manager. “I don’t think there was another sports game that created such varied, emergent, emotive gameplay back then. “PES was a massive influence in the beginning,” says Gary Paterson, who became Fifa lead designer in October 2005. I wasn’t involved in the planning, but with hindsight it was either ballsy or flukey! Let’s say the former.”Įven EA’s employees were wowed by their rivals’ excellence. “Collina was well known, it was an iconic image and different from the familiar white EA covers with a stock picture of Michael Owen or David Ginola. “We could do anything at that point,” says Merrett. Konami grew so confident it plonked referee Pierluigi Collina on the cover of PES 3. Pierluigi Collina on the cover of Pro Evolution Soccer 3. “From PES 2 to PES 5, you knew you’d succeeded when you’d demo the game to a magazine, and a few days later the journo would gripe that they couldn’t go back to the old version,” says Merrett. The cliche of EA focusing on licences while Konami aped real football was born.Īided by its magnificent Master League career mode – creating unlikely icons of fictional nobodies Valery, Ximenes and Castello – the early 00s remain Pro Evo’s golden era. While that game scored 9/10, Fifa 2002 picked up 8/10, bolstered by 400 teams with correct strips and badges. “The best football game on any console – ever,” insisted Eurogamer in 2001 as Pro Evolution Soccer landed on PlayStation 2. With the engine in place, each entry became a matter of refinement.” The Gazza in Konami’s English team had his peroxide hair. “Even those earliest Tokyo-developed titles focused on control, with the blocky characters perhaps lacking the finesse of the EA game but offering a more flowing experience. “The series was always about gameplay,” says Steve Merrett, Konami’s PR mastermind from 2001 to 2018. Konami’s titles rewarded patience, and the genuine pace – such as that demonstrated by France forward Hanry – felt scintillating. The key was the intricacy with which they did so. During this time, PES became legendary for its made-up names: Roberto Larcos, Naldorinho, Batustita, but it didn’t matter that England lined up with Bekham and Skoles supplying Owenn and Sheerer. Three subsequent PS1 games widened the quality gap. “So smooth you forget this is a video game and actually feel like you’re participating in a real match,” cooed Absolute PlayStation. Plus its side-on visual presentation looked beautiful. The game included nine in-match strategy options such as zone press and overlap, emphasising the idea of simulation over arcade-style action. Where its rival encouraged fast, thrilling goal-fests, ISS slowed things down, rewarding patient approach play and crisp passing, facilitated by a groundbreaking approach to tactical variety. Developed by Konami Tokyo with a new 3D graphics engine, it sought to challenge Fifa by offering an organic, improvisational experience rather than something tightly structured around specific moves and tactics. The game-changer was 1997’s International Superstar Soccer Pro – follow-up to the well-received early PlayStation kickabout, Goal Storm, and namesake of 1994 SNES title International Superstar Soccer. “The word ‘classic’ is used too much,” wrote Mean Machines Sega magazine, awarding it 94%, “but anyone who plays Fifa Soccer must concede that this IS football.” Critics and football fans loved its isometric viewpoint, realistic animations, end-to-end action and spectacular bicycle kicks. But Fifa was a flashy newcomer, designed for the 16-bit console era, and within a month it had sold 500,000 copies. Contemporary hits Kick Off 2 and Sensible Soccer both adopted an overhead view and lacked any kind of big-league sponsorship. When Fifa International Soccer launched on Mega Drive in December 1993, its competitors were already beginning to look old-fashioned. It was the latest shot in a turf war going back 25 years. The reason? Barca are an official PES 2020 partner club – and publisher Konami reportedly wasn’t keen for him to promote its main rival. Yet his first-round match against Eibar’s Edu Expósito never took place. Earlier this year, Barcelona’s Sergi Roberto was due to compete in a charity Fifa 20 tournament, which ultimately raised almost £130,000 towards the fight against coronavirus. You'll want to max int, get wits and memory as you need initiative and spell slots respectively, and if you're taking a shield and don't have the constitution from gear, 2 extra points in there so you can keep shields on. Another reason double wands is really good.) (Another note: if you'd rather take something else over savage sort., you can dump the rest of points into huntsman, and get to high ground, and just go nuts. I'm lazy, and don't like doing math, but an example of what your skill trees should look like: 10 aero, 2 hunts, 2 scoundrel, 2 pyro, 2 hydro, 2 geo, rest into poly until around 5 points, then scoundrel. If you max out scoundrel and aero, and have some extra stuff, just toss them into huntsman (which you should have some points in anyway for tactical retreat), but I don't think this will happen. If you don't want a shield, double wands is your next best bet, so that when your spells are on CD you can just throw some crit air wands at them. Probably grab savage sortilege (I can't spell, the one that gives your spells crit chance) and any extra combat points that you don't need for other trees just dump into scoundrel. You would want to spec fully into aero, and use the extra points to get your extra spells/etc. Though, you don't need to stay in melee range, and I've done it and have done just fine. Quick note on weapons: wand and shield is very good for an aero build, as most of your skills involve you being in melee range and the rain/shock combo will damage you, so a shield will give you the extra survival you need. Your build is perfectly viable! Some suggestions, though. If you can’t find brown rice syrup, you can use maple syrup here. To make these granola bars vegan, substitute brown rice syrup for the honey. If the mix-ins are too large, or if you add too many, the bars won’t hold together. You should also maintain the ratios I use in the original recipe. Feel free to use what you like, but make sure that you chop any dried fruits or nuts to a small size. Shredded unsweetened coconut, chopped dried cranberries, sunflower seeds, and dried currants are a few of my favorites. Change up the mix-ins! I love the combination of mini chocolate chips and pepitas in these bars, but they’re delicious with other mix-ins too.I like to eat these granola bars straight out of the fridge, but if they’re frozen, let them thaw at room temperature for 20 minutes before you eat. They’ll keep for up to a week in the fridge, but you can also freeze them for up to 2 months. I recommend storing them with a sheet of parchment paper between layers so that the bars don’t stick together. Once you slice the bars, cover the pan and store it in the fridge, or transfer the bars to an airtight container. Pop the pan in the fridge for at least one hour before slicing and eating the bars. Don’t cut the chilling time short. It’s tempting to slice and eat these bars as soon as you press the oat mixture into the pan, but in order for them to be chewy and cohesive, they really need to chill. If your nut butter is too dry or thick, it won’t bind the oats, chocolate chips, and nuts or seeds into cohesive bars. Look for natural cashew or peanut butter with a smooth consistency to make this recipe, not the dry, stiff stuff that you might find at the bottom of a jar. Then, use the back of a measuring cup to smooth and flatten the tops of the bars.įinally, chill! Transfer the pan to the fridge, and allow the mixture to chill for one hour before you slice and eat the bars. Firmly press the mixture to the sides of the pan with your hands. Scoop the mixture onto the bottom of the pan, and cover it with another sheet of parchment paper. Next, press the bars into a parchment-lined baking pan. The mixture might seem dry at first, but keep stirring! Everything will be fully incorporated in no time. Second, fold in the dry ingredients – the oats, chocolate chips, and pepitas. Mix until the honey is fully incorporated. You won’t believe how easy it is to make this homemade granola bar recipe! Here’s what you need to do:įirst, stir together the wet ingredients – the cashew or peanut butter, honey, vanilla extract, and salt. If you don’t have mini chocolate chips, finely chopped dark chocolate will work in their place.įind the complete recipe with measurements below. Mini chocolate chips – Who doesn’t love nut butter and chocolate?! Be sure to use mini chocolate chips here, as regular chocolate chips are too big to make cohesive bars.Pepitas, crushed peanuts, or cashews – They add healthy fats, protein, and crunch.Sea salt – To make all the rich, sweet, and nutty flavors in this recipe pop!.Vanilla extract – It amps up the bars’ warm flavor.Honey – Along with the nut butter, it helps all these ingredients stick together! I love its warm amber flavor in this recipe. If you’re gluten-free, make sure that you use certified gluten-free oats. Whole rolled oats – They give these bars a perfect chewy texture.Natural peanut or cashew butter – It helps bind the bars together, and it adds protein, healthy fats, and irresistible nutty flavor. You only need 7 basic ingredients to make this homemade granola bar recipe: Filled with wholesome ingredients like oats, pepitas, and nut butter, they’re healthy enough to pass for breakfast, but they’re also a perfect afternoon snack. They’re chewy, sweet, nutty, and studded with just the right amount of chocolate chips. It’s a breeze to make, and the bars are fantastic. I might not have had the exact granola bars I was craving on hand, but I could make homemade granola bars that’d be even better!įast forward to now, and I’ve made this granola bar recipe more times than I can count. These days, I don’t keep packaged snacks around the house, but I always have old fashioned oats, nuts, and seeds in my pantry. They had a chewy texture, a sweet, oat-y flavor, and pockets of mini chocolate chips. A few weeks ago, I started craving the granola bars I ate as a kid. |
